Mytchett Athletic FC are running free coaching sessions for football players of all abilities at our Bellew Road ground, which is situated off Blackdown Road, Deepcut, GU16 6QJ.

Coaching starts on 23rd May 2012 and takes place every Wednesday for 8 weeks. The sessions are exclusively for boys and girls aged 4 to 7 years of age (school years reception, year 1 and year 2).

Directions

• From Red Road, Deepcut Bridge Road turn right onto Blackdown Road and you will find the car park 250 yards on the right hand side with the ground opposite.
• From the Lakeside Club, Wharf Road, Frimley Green continue along onto Lake Road and turn left into Bellew Road. Continue up the hill, bear right and the car park is on the left hand side.

About the sessions

• The sessions are free
• They will run for about an hour
• Please arrive at 5.50pm so that registration can be taken for insurance purposes
• Children should wear appropriate football kit, including shin pads
• Training takes place on grass and we recommend children wear either trainers or firm ground football boots as the ground tends to be much firmer at this time of the year
• All children should bring their own drink as regular drinks breaks will be taken to ensure everyone stays properly hydrated
• Every child attending must be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian preferred) and the adult should stay during the session. We are sorry but we cannot accept children who are un-accompanied by an adult.

Mytchett U10 Eagles have just completed their season in the NEHYL and next season will progress from playing 7v7 to 9v9, so the team are looking to add some more players.

All our coaches are CRB approved, qualified to at least FACA Level 1, including safeguarding children and emergency aid, and share the approach for long term player development.

Summer training is held on Monday evenings and matches next season will be played on Saturday mornings.

U11 players for 2012/13 season must be born between 1st September 2001 and 31st August 2002.

With our league campaign now confined to the history books (although with a presentation night to look forward to where we will collect our runners up trophies) we again turned our attention back to the Ash Trophy. This was the last game in the group so we knew what was needed to qualify for the knockout stages. Whilst we only needed a point, playing for a draw would have been suicide against a team in the Jaguars who are far better than their Division 5 standing. They had won that league at a canter only dropping 2 points & having conceded just 8 all season. In the Ash trophy they had already faced a team from our own division & two higher division teams & had given a good account of themselves. This was going to be edge of your seat stuff!!

The Kestrels were down to just 7 players so had no subs as Libby was away & Max had gone to play in an “egg chasing” tournament. We have had only 7 in a couple of games this season & each time we had a team of heroes at the end. Could history repeat itself?!!

The start was a little cat & mouse with each team testing each other. The Jaguars were going out to win this game so we had to be on our game & needed Henry & Cameron to be fully alert from the first whistle. The Jaguars capitalised on some sluggish defending, notably down our left, & had a couple of good moves that resulted in shots going wide.

We settled our nerves with a great team goal. Alex was tenacious in his midfield role & won the ball with a succession of tackles. He fed the ball to Kian who controlled & looked up. Timing his pass to perfection he found Sam who had run into the box & was able to steer the ball past the keeper.

We pushed for another & Luke had a wonderful shot somehow saved by the keeper who managed to turn it away for a corner. From the corner though Sam saw a gap at the near post & with pace curled the ball straight in.

At half time we had a good lead but could not allow ourselves to become complacent.

HALF TIME – JAGUARS 0 KESTRELS 2

The second half saw the Jaguars press us back & we defended in numbers. On one occasion as they burst through Henry was on hand to block which brought a roar from the Kestrels supporters that he had woken up as he seemed to have been dreaming in the first half!!!

The Jaguars got back into the game with a move down our left. We failed to clear the danger when we could have just played the ball out for a throw instead trying to play too much football on the edge of our own box. The cross came in from the left & was rolled along about 3 to 4 yards from goal but far enough away from Joseph that he could not have come for it. Three of our defenders just watched as the ball was crossed & the forward was left with an easy tap in. Game on!!

This was the wake up call we needed as we then upped our game. Sam shot from long range & the ball looked destined for the net. The keeper made another save just managing to keep hold of the ball as Luke ran in for any possible spill & would surely have found the net had the keeper failed to keep hold.

As we entered the last few minutes a strong tackle on the half way line left a Jaguar in a heap but we were allowed to play on. Luke & Sam combined as we got into their box & the ball came back to Kian who had half the goal to aim at but just put his shot wide of the post.

Our next attack saw Sam shoot from long range but then as the Jaguars broke Cameron made a match winning block that preserved our lead.

The whistle went & the celebrations began as we knew that we had made it through to the Semi Finals
