U7 Kestrels 30th April 2011
Sportsman Award – Archie
It was another warm and sunny day for this late April fixture and the boys were all sweating plenty by the final whistle. With a minimum match day squad of seven, there were no substitutes available.
Raees played in goal for the first half and Ewan for the second half. Both had good games, showed good awareness of the penalty area and kicked the ball well out of hand. It was a very sporting gesture from both players to play a whole half in goal, and they were each rewarded by playing half a game up front.
Harry was caught out by some bouncing balls in the first half, but played excellently in the second half, winning the ball and starting off attacks. Archie showed strength and determination to go with his nimble footwork, making one notably great tackle to deny a scoring chance in the second half. Mitchell held his position well in the left of midfield, and was unlucky not to score with a header from a William cross. Charlie gave maximum effort as always, but was unable to create many shooting opportunities. When he was bundled over in the penalty area in the second half he was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty.
Man of the Match went to William, who anchored the midfield and ran his socks off. He won tackles, dribbled, passed and was a constant source of menace and frustration to the opposition. Archie’s fine all round game won him the Sportsman award.
