With autumn upon us, the weather certainly did not reflect the time of year. Frimley Lodge Park was blessed with bright sunshine and summer temperatures for the match against Cove Cougars.

The Eagles started the game very slowly, and were put under pressure right from the kick off. It was only down to some fine goalkeeping from Thomas A that prevented the visitors from taking an early lead. Despite his heroics, Thomas A had to leave the game early due to illness, but had a very able replacement in Luke H.

Prior to the goalkeeping change, Cove’s pressure had paid off as they took an early lead. Mytchett then finally began to wake up with Taylor and Jack working well together in midfield to create opportunities for Reece. Unfortunately Reece’s efforts were blocked and Mytchett were again left frustrated.

Cove had a superior physical advantage over the Eagles boys, but Mytchett continued to battle hard and work as a team.  This determination was evident in the display given by Raees in the right wing back position. Raees worked tirelessly up and down the field assisting in attack, as well as showing much improvement in his defensive skills.

In the second half Luke H continued to display some superb skills in goal, and the determination of second half substitute Ethan were lifting the spirits of the team. Kieran, Luke R, and Thomas C were beginning to look comfortable together in defence, and Cove’s opportunities were being limited.

Attacking opportunities were now falling to Mytchett, and Reece finally broke through the Cove defenders only to find his two great efforts saved by the keeper.

As Mytchett continued to push forward for a goal, Cove grabbed another on the counter attack to finally put the result beyond reach.

This was yet another strong team performance, and if the Eagles continue with this attitude the boys will soon be rewarded with some good results. This week’s awards could have gone to a number of players today for their brave efforts. However, Clayton decided to hand the respect award to Kieran for an excellent second half display following a first half own goal which left him extremely disappointed.

Clayton’s Man of the Match award went to Taylor for yet another fine display in the centre of midfield, covering almost every blade of grass. Taylor was also involved in many of the Eagles’ attacking opportunities, and as captain for the day displayed continued improvement in his leadership skills.
