MAFC 26th Annual Tournament Review

Mytchett Tournament

We would like to thank all of the teams for supporting us at our 26th annual tournament.

The 2018 Mytchett Tournament will be remembered as the scorcher! Record UK temperatures for a May Bank Holiday. It was hard going for everyone in the heat, not least the players, who put on another great spectacle of football entertainment for everyone watching.

We really enjoy running our annual tournament. There is a lot of hard work and effort that goes into the planning and preparations, which helps things to run as smoothly as possible over the two days. It’s wonderful for us to receive such positive feedback from the teams who take part, it confirms we’re doing things right. But as always, if you have any suggestions on how we can further improve the tournament, we would love the hear from you.

Jewel Windows

We were delighted to have Jewel Windows as our Tournament Sponsor again this year. Jewel are a local company who continue to support football in the local community. When the time comes to replace your windows and doors, or perhaps a new conservatory or orangery, please give them a call and mention Mytchett Athletic FC.

There are a number of other companies and people we must thank, starting with the Mytchett Centre for the hire of the pitches and facilities.  Thanks to Ivor Baker Awards for the supply of the trophies, to Woods Butchers in North Camp for the BBQ meats. DE Photo for their professional photography services. Paul Ibbotson for the PA system. IGB Print for printing our programme. All of our programme advertisers and team sponsors. Jones Entertainments for the sweets and donuts, and Gordon Marlow the Ice Cream man.

A special mention also to Dave Travers, Chairman at Camberley Boys FC, and the unofficial groundsman at the Mytchett Centre. Dave gives up his time to prepare the pitches for the Mytchett Tournament and we’re delighted with the outcome.

Staging this tournament is only really possible thanks to the efforts of all our volunteers from within the club, some of whom are there over the entire weekend. For the many parents, grandparents, players and everyone who helped, a huge thank you on behalf of the Tournament Committee.

A reminder that the photos taken by DE Photo can be viewed & purchased online via their website

You can view a small sample of their photos from the tournament on our gallery page.

You can see a summary of the results from the Cup and Plate knock-out competitions on our tournament results page. Well done to all the teams who took part.

Once again many thanks for your support and good luck with your own tournaments as well.

We hope you can join us again in 2019.

Best wishes
Graham & the rest of the tournament committee.

  • Hi, I just wanted to say a mahoosive ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in the tournament (weekend just gone at the Mytchett Centre). It was amazingly well organised and the team of volunteers that you had doing all the planning and preparation beforehand as well as on the day are absolutely fantastic. There was a wonderful atmosphere and a great sense of fun and community. Chris and myself thank you so much for putting on such an amazing event. School can be a very pressurised environment for children these days and it’s a joy to see sport acting as a healthy balance to that. I do not have a sporty bone in my body but wish I did 🙂 Many thanks once again, Jules and Chris Todd
