We would like to thank all of the teams for supporting us at our 23rd annual tournament.
On the Sunday we turned on the grassroots sprinkler system (aka rain) which gave a slick surface for passing and fizzing shots. From about midday we’d had enough water and it was dry and sunny conditions for the rest of the tournament.
It was great to see so many kids playing football, having fun and giving such excitement to the watching crowds.
Each year we listen to your feedback and try to find ways to make the tournament that little bit better next time. The major change for 2015 was the introduction of golden goal and player elimination to settle tied knock-out matches. This produced moments of high excitement and thrilling action as games were settled as 3v3 or 2v2. When we drafted this rule we had it continue to 1v1, but in practice this was difficult for restarts at throw-ins, goal kicks and corners, so for next year 2v2 will play until a goal is scored. This seems a more exciting, memorable and fair way to settle the game than the lottery of penalty kicks.

Just a note to thank you and your team for a fantastically well organised event. All our boys thoroughly enjoyed themselves, there was a great atmosphere and all the facilities needed for the parents too.

Thanks for a great under 9s tournament yesterday. Very well run, played in a great spirit, and lovely weather to boot!
No complaints whatsoever, and the boys absolutely loved it. And the extra time approach was superb to watch – just glad we didn’t have to play in it – how do you choose who to take off? :-)
One suggestion for next season, only minor, but to do with the keepers. A couple of teams would have their keeper kick on the half volley or launch balls from goal kicks into the opposition box, and I just wonder if roll outs only might further promote the type of football that was being played throughout the morning.
A great tournament, and please pass my thanks to the refs who did a great job!
And it’s the first time we have turned up to play with our Falcons, Eagles and Kestrels to face the same team names too…although you did have Hawks…we didn’t simply because we couldn’t get our fourth team out on a Monday! Great minds think alike.

Really enjoyed the tournament, thank you. Well organised, the most timely tournament I’ve ever been to. Everyone from Mytchett really friendly, some lovely parents and coaches. We did have an issue with a coach and manager of another team but we have dealt with this internally (it was another Cove team sadly). I didn’t really notice the Respect guy around too much and couldn’t find him when I did want to speak about something.
All in all a really great afternoon and most importantly all my boys got to play 7 matches which they were thrilled about, all went into school yesterday clutching their runners up trophies!

Firstly a big thank you from Hook U11 Panthers for a fantastic Mytchett tournament. This is the first time we’ve been and will absolutely be coming back next year..
What we enjoyed:
Atmosphere – very friendly, great messaging on this being the boys football… That comes across from the Mytchett teams at our level anyway.
Pitches – Clever idea of big goals, small pitches.. Most teams would have at least gone home having scored a goal!!
Organisation – League games ran on time. Everyone knew they would get through to a knock-out stage.
Sudden Death – Liked the idea of removing players in extra time rather than penalities.
Goal difference – Capping any victory at 3-0 what a great idea. Nothing to be gained for both teams from beating a team by loads of goals..They should do that in league…(only capture up to a certain number).
Food – yep parents said it was good. I cannot eat and watch the boys at the same time.. :-)
Didn’t enjoy
We were sadly victims of being eliminated in cup semi final when we got down to 1 v 1 goalkeepers.. Whoever had the ball at goalkick time won the game..That didn’t work…….Stick to 2 v 2 and we like the format :-)

I am more than happy to send you a response in respect of your tournament, i have to say i throughly enjoyed it I entered 2 teams in the under 13’s age group and the group stages ran very well, both my teams got through to the main competion one of the quarters went down to 2 v 2 golden goal, it was great fun, the boys loved it, unfortunatley both teams were knocked out in the semi’s but we all had smiles on our faces – great day :) thank you

The tournament was fantastic thank you! My boys Manor Colts Blacks u10s got all the way to the final, and enjoyed every game.
This was the first tournament I have been too with my team. But parents say that they have not been to one before which runs so efficiently like Myctchett! They were also very impressed how the whole u10s tournament was played with fair ethics and respect. Which was a credit to all the teams involved and Mytchett.

Thank you for allowing Farnham United to be part of your tournament again this year, again it was another successful year.
We would like to recommend a more seeded tournament, we noted this year all teams except Farnham United U12’s and one of your Mytchett Teams were in the Premier and Division 1 of the NEHYL. This is one thing that may cause us not to enter the tournament next season as Div 4 and below teams are at a much lower standard of football than the higher divisions.
One further issue was the aggression of the manager from **** ***** ****** I believe, I actually told him to keep quiet and to stop he aggression towards the young lady ref whilst we were playing him.
Anyway, overall it was a great tournament.

My son played in the Under 7’s at the tournament last weekend and I just wanted to say a big thank you for the way the whole tournament was organised.
I am not involved in he management of the team in any way and my boy’s team did not win a game (Badshot Lea Rangers) but he thoroughly enjoyed it and especially enjoyed receiving his first football medal. I attended a lot of football tournaments in my youth and I was very impressed by the way yours was run so I wanted you to know this as people are quick to complain but not to praise. I thought that the referre’s handled the games exceptionally well.

Just wanted to send you a note to say how much we all enjoyed the tournament today; well done on some first-rate organisation.
Views are inevitably coloured by progressing well in our age group but some of the comments from our parents and coaches included:
– Good range of abilities represented amongst 18 teams
– Excellent sporting conduct by all teams
– Liked the concept of each team going through to a knockout tournament – more football for each player
– Loved the ‘progressive player elimination’ rounds in the knockout – but would HATE to be the losing team after going down to 1v1!
– So good to receive a trophy as a Runner-Up
– Impressed with white lining being attended to during the event
– Accessible car parking and no constant moving around pitches in group stages.
And finally – if you’ll have us back, I’m sure we’d like to return next summer!

Congratulations on a fantastic tournament. It was my teams’ first ever tournament, and if any of the others we compete in this season are as well organised and as much fun as Mytchett we will be delighted.
Very good, clear programme. You have a very good clubhouse and toilet facilities. Parking seemed fine.
As a U7 team the tournament was ‘festival’ format; I must say we would have preferred a competitive format, as I think the lads and parents of my two teams (which both topped their groups) would have liked a little more recognition, or another match or two. However the medals were very good.
Match length at 10 minutes was appropriate (I’ve seen some tournaments have 7 and 8 minute matches).
I don’t recall seeing in the tournament papers that the groups would be seeded / semi-seeded. I may have missed it, but if not it would be helpful to know – we fielded two ‘balanced’ teams which caused some moaning when parents saw one team was in a strong group and one in a less difficult group.
Really, really good tournament – we appreciate you and your clubs’ efforts
